A Skirball Academy Class
Michal Nachmany
Hebrew for Advanced Beginners (Summer 2026)
This class is intended for students who can already read Hebrew at a basic level and want to deepen their skills. It combines Modern Hebrew vocabulary with liturgical Hebrew understanding, with a primary emphasis on understanding and engaging with the prayers.
We will begin with a brief review of reading fundamentals and then expand vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure through selected prayers and texts from the Siddur. Along the way, you will gain confidence reading, translating, and appreciating the richness of the language of prayer.
By the end of the course, participants will recognize essential Hebrew roots, expand their vocabulary in both Modern and Prayer Book Hebrew, and feel more confident and comfortable participating in the prayers.
