Advanced Conversational Hebrew:

Israel Through Contemporary Short Fiction

(Summer 2026)

In this course we will read contemporary short fiction in Hebrew. Selected from the works of leading Hebrew authors published in the last three years, the stories will allow us to explore and discuss different aspects of current Hebrew culture and Israeli society. Students will read the stories at home before class. The texts and vocabulary aids will be provided. Our classes will be devoted to Hebrew discussion of the stories we read and the themes they raise. Etgar Keret’s story “Kavana” from his latest collection, Autocorrect, will be included. This class is for students with a high intermediate to advanced level of conversational Hebrew.
