David Blatt has an unlikely pedigree for a champion basketball player and coach: Raised in Boston, he studied English literature at Princeton and then made aliyah. But during his storied career, he played 12 years in the EuroLeague, coached 10 teams in seven different countries and was crowned coach of the year in Israel, Russia and the EuroLeague. He is the most decorated sportsman in Israel’s history with 16 national and continental championships and an Olympic medal, and he accomplished all of that before becoming head coach of the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers.
