The Voice of the Opposition
A conversation with Yair Lapid
As Israel confronts the aftermath of October 7, wars on multiple fronts and profound internal divisions over the role of the judiciary, religion in public life, and military service — alongside an increasingly strained relationship with American Jews and continued uncertainty about prospects for regional stability — The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Cultural Center invites you to a wide-ranging conversation with Yair Lapid, leader of the opposition and former prime minister of Israel.
Before entering public service, Lapid was a best-selling author, newspaper columnist, and television journalist. In 2012, he founded the centrist Yesh Atid party, which became one of the largest parties in the Knesset. He has since served in several senior roles, including prime minister, foreign minister, and finance minister. During his tenure, he oversaw key diplomatic and security initiatives, including a maritime agreement with Lebanon, military operations in Gaza and the creation of the Negev Forum. He also served in Israel’s Security Cabinet during the 2014 Gaza conflict.
Ahead of a pivotal national election in Israel, this conversation will explore the challenges shaping Israel’s present and future.
