An A+ in Humanity

Ron Wolfson and Bruce Powell Reimagine Education

A lot of English and Math, Science and History. A little Art. Perhaps a smattering of Music.

Those are the subjects that guide almost every school — and tell young people what is important for their futures.

But shouldn’t schools also teach students to be mensches? Why not offer AP courses in thoughtfulness and make doing mitzvahs an educational expectation?

Pioneering educators Bruce Powell and Ron Wolfson propose a new curriculum that arms children with the compassion and kindness that will help them to take on the world with sound moral judgment. They join us to discuss that radical proposal at the heart of their new book, Raising A+ Human Beings, and its potential for more confident children and a better world.

A renowned Jewish educator, Bruce Powell has helped create 26 schools, including Yeshiva University of Los Angeles High School and the de Toledo High School in Los Angeles. He runs Jewish School Management, an educational consulting and coaching business.

Fingerhut Professor of Education at the American Jewish University and president of the Kripke Institute, Ron Wolfson is a popular speaker and author of books about individual and communal spiritual renewal, including The Art of Jewish Living series of family guides to spiritual celebration and his groundbreaking book, Relational Judaism.
