The 100-Year Struggle for Civil Liberties
Over the past century, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has reshaped American life with legal actions that desegregated schools, legalized abortion, struck down anti-sodomy laws and protected free speech.
To honor those achievements, forty acclaimed writers — including Salman Rushdie, Ann Patchett, Louise Erdrich and Scott Turow — dove inside the ACLU’s most significant cases, bringing their own passions and questions to bear, to probe what these efforts have meant for individuals and the nation.
Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman, who coedited Fight of the Century: Writers Reflect on 100 Years of Landmark ACLU Cases, will join us to discuss how the bold voices of leading authors unpacked the legal decisions that pushed the boundaries of American liberties.
Michael Chabon is the bestselling author of eight novels, including his Pulitzer Prize–winning The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay.
Ayelet Waldman is an Israeli-American lawyer, novelist and essayist best known for the Mommy-Track mysteries series.
Moderated by novelist and poet Moriel Rothman-Zecher.
