When Hollywood Fought Nazis
As the conflict in Europe provoked growing concern after 1939 and, especially following Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor two years later, Hollywood produced films with a clear political message: That Nazism posed a clear and present danger to America. We will study a series of these films, beginning with Anatole Litvak’s controversial Confessions of a Nazi Spy, and including The Mortal Storm, The Great Dictator and Casablanca.

Author of The American Jewish Story through Cinema, Dr. Eric Goldman cohosted the Turner Classic Movies series The Projected Image: The Jewish Experience on Film. An adjunct professor of cinema at Yeshiva University, he is currently completing a book on Israeli film and cohosts Jewish Cinematheque on JBSTV.
