Duplicity, a string quartet by Anjna Swaminathan, weaves aspects of South Indian classical melodic and rhythmic vocabulary into the string quartet form. She was inspired by her mother, who engaged, she says, in “cultural duplicity” by shapeshifting between cultural, linguistic and traditional spaces.
