Introduction to Judaism

Ask your questions, learn multiple perspectives and discover what is meaningful to you in Reform Judaism. We’ll explore Jewish holidays and life-cycle ceremonies, beliefs, values, prayer, Jewish texts, Israel and the American Jewish experience.

This 18-session course is wonderfully suited for interfaith couples, those raising Jewish children, individuals considering conversion, spiritual seekers and anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of Jewish life, no matter faith tradition, cultural background or religious upbringing.

  • December 3, 10, 17 (Hanukkah)
  • January 7, 14, 21, 28
  • February 4, 11, 18,
  • March 4, 11, 18, 25
  • April 8, 15, 22, 29
  • Potential make-up(s): May 6, May 13

Thursdays, 6:30 – 8:30 PM 

December 3 – April 29 (18-week class)

$360 per person/$450 per couple (does not include books/materials)

Temple Emanu-El will follow New York City and state-mandated regulations regarding in-person events and gatherings. In the event that we cannot proceed in-person, this event will be either be made virtual or postponed. Rabbi Janet Roberts teaches classes on a broad range of topics and has a special interest in the Hebrew Bible. Ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, she welcomes students from diverse backgrounds, including those new to Jewish studies who are considering conversion.
