Performing Patriarchs and Matriarchs: Writing Bibliodrama
The Torah is filled with characters and conflicts that have generated centuries of creativity, culminating in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and The Prince of Egypt. The stories of Sarah and Hagar, Tamar, Rachel, Abraham, Joseph, Moses and Korah can unfold infinitely, inspiring emotions, memories and dreams that connect us to our ancestors and ourselves. We will explore a free process of imaginative time with the Bible, creating monologues, dialogues, scenes and stories using creative drama and devised theater techniques.

Betsy Shevey was Head of Theater Programs at Bennington College, University of Texas and Goodman School of Drama, and faculty at Juilliard and NYU/Tisch School of the Arts. She has won awards from the National Endowment of the Arts and the British Drama Festival, and studied at Hadar, The Jewish Theological Seminary and the Romemu Yeshiva.
